Monthly Archives: April 2012
Migration Mania is back at the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden, located on Stock Island. Come celebrate Easter Key West style, with fun for the whole family happening all day!
On April 7th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m children of all ages are invited to join multiple birding egg hunts featuring 7,000 eggs, birding seminars, live birds shows, bird crafts, games, contests, a bounce house, and more. Admission is $5 for adults and children. Free for members.
Pull out the sunblock and pack your beach bag — it’s going to be a hot one! This week is going to be perfect for catching some rays at Fort Zachary Taylor or catching up on your reading by one of the pools at Parrot Key. Highs in the 80’s with nighttime lows not far behind, this is prime flip-flop & tank-top weather. Why not take the kids down to Flamingo Crossing for a homemade ice cream (a local’s favorite) or zip on over to the White Street Fishing Pier and enjoy the breezes coming off the water? If the sun gets to be too much, head into the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory to take a rest and enjoy an oasis off Duval’s hustle and bustle. Don’t forget to stay hydrated and load up on that SPF…nothing throws a wrench into vacation plans like a scorching sunburn! And remember: Sunset Celebration, Key West’s nightly arts & music celebration, is happening every night over at Mallory Square.
Have a wonderful week!
One of Key West’s most famous and beloved celebrations is back — you won’t want to miss this 10 day festival featuring something for everyone! Commemorating the 1983 creation of our island nation (“We seceded where others failed!”), this event has been called Key West’s own 4th of July, Bastille Day and Cinco De Mayo celebration all rolled into one.
With events ranging from the “World’s Longest Parade” to the election of the Conch Republic Royal Family, this eclectic jamboree embodies the true spirit of our favorite tiny island — enjoy daily music festivals, bar crawls, drag races, conch-blowing contests, car shows, tall ship battles, craft shows, food festivals and even a pet stroll!
Set your calendars for April 20th – 29th. For the full schedule of events, head on over to: http://conchrepublic.com/schedule.htm
