Parrot Key’s garden oasis has never looked so good; with a weather forecast calling for perfect sunny days, low winds and even lower humidity we’re thinking there’s no better place on earth to relax than on one of our lounge chairs out by our spectacular and secluded pools.
Why leave paradise when it’s right outside your front door?
We’ll see you out by Cafe Blue– those bartenders sure do know how to fix one mean rum punch!
We just got word that The Smokin’ Tuna is hosting the crew of Beachfront Radio today, with free festivities, special guests and dangerously good music until 6pm tonight. Host John Frinzi is guaranteed to bring the house down along with his friends and local hotshots “Sunny Jim” White, Jim Morris, Tall Paul, Freebo, Brent Burns, Dennis McCaughey, Thom Shepherd, and many more. Celebrate Halloween with a laid-back afternoon of tunes, tales of glory and the always awesome Smokin’ Tuna Staff.
The party is happening NOW!
The Smokin’ Tuna Saloon is located at 4 Charles Street. For directions, just ask your friendly Parrot Key front desk agent.
From everyone here at your favorite Key West Hotel:
Looking for something extra scary to do this evening? Trick-or-treating not really your style? The Haunting Fort Zachary Taylor haunted house closes for the rest of the season after today, so get there tonight and say goodbye the way ghosts do: with a scream!

The clothes have returned, the decorations have come down and the streets are back to normal (well, as normal as they ever get here in Key West). Fantasy Fest went out with a bang this weekend, and–apart from a little extra wind–we didn’t even notice that Sandy was here. The parties were epic, the costumes magnificent, and the memories unforgettable. We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did here at Parrot Key Resort. It was a pleasure hosting all of you and seeing you in your finery each night.
With October winding up to close, our eyes are on next month: Powerboat races, Parrot Head conventions and a slew of other great events make November a busy, happy time here in Key West.
Those of you with children (or those of us whose inner children need a little extra coddling this year) will be happy to know that most businesses and homes will be handing out candy this Wednesday for Halloween, so start marking those trick-or-treat routes now– and please remember to wear reflective clothing & bike lights if you plan on cycling around town this holiday! Be safe, have fun, and come back to see us next year.
Key West hotels were well represented at yesterday’s Masquerade March– we spotted many of our friends and colleagues in their costumed finest! This parade was one for the ages, with thousands of participants taking over the streets on what was arguably a perfect day (clear skies, sunshine and a lack of the usually oppressive humidity? Perfect parade weather.)
Here’s some of our favorite snapshots of the event…. and remember, if you’re in the mood for some more Fantasy Fest fun, the schedule of events can be found here: http://www.fantasyfest.com/schedule.cfm
The storm has passed us, leaving absolutely perfect weather for the final couple days of Fantasy Fest. The sky is white with patches of blue, and warm gusts of wind are rustling all the trees that got watered last night. Perfectly eerie weather for A-Conch-Alypse parades; the locals parade down Simonton and the big event tomorrow night should be fantastic! No more rain is predicted for this weekend, but there will be plenty of cocktails, beads, and wild costumes!
We’re truly in the thick of Fantasy Fest now, with some of the weeks’ craziest parties happening tonight.
Don’t feel like picking one? Why not try them all– you are on vacation, after all!
First up, the annual Pretenders in Paradise party has a super creepy theme this year: Zombie Nation Vacation! Don your best blood-soaked t-shirt and gaping wounds and head over to the Pier House at 1 Duval Street for this incredible party and costume contest. The fun starts at 8:00!
In the mood for something with a little less gore? Why not brush off your old graphing calculator, hike up those white socks and crash the Nerd Party that The Porch is throwing tonight at 9:00– with DJ’d music and snacks, this is one geek fest that’s sure to be light on the Algebra and heavy on the fun. The Porch is located at 429 Caroline St. (Just follow the pack of guys wearing star trek uniforms and pocket protectors.)
Haven’t seen what you’re looking for, yet? You’re in luck: two more excellent costume parties are happening tonight. Hit up the Tarts & Vicars party being held at Nine One Five if you’re feeling a bit sacred (or profane!)…the fun starts at 10:00pm over at 915 Duval St.
Or else grab your cape, hop in the batmobile and hightail it over to Rumor Lounge, located at 430 Greene St, for their Sexy Superheroes costume party! DJ’d music and dancing begins at 10:00pm. Superpowers not included.
The schedule is packed, the fun is imminent, and a little rain never stopped us from having a fantastic time at Fantasy Fest. What are you waiting for? Start getting your costume ready– we’ll see you out there!
While most of the events inside Fantasy Fest tend to be more whips-and-chains than whimsical, today’s event spotlight is a refreshingly lighthearted one: The Pet Masquerade!
This hilarious costume contest for owners & pets is definitely one of our favorites, as it highlights the most creative costumes that our little island can come up with– and some cute critters, too! Sit back and get ready to laugh, cheer and be amazed as Fido and his human counterpart are trotted out in their costumed best. The stakes are high in this competition, with the winners gaining fame, fortune and bragging rights for a whole year.
The show starts at 5:30 p.m. and is free to watch. (If you’re interested in entering, a fee of $25 is charged) with proceeds to benefit a truly wonderful cause, the Lower Keys Friends of Animals.
Head over early to grab good seats! The Pet Masquerade is located at the Casa Marina Resort, 1500 Reynolds St.
We at Parrot Key like to think of ourselves as more than just another Key West Hotel. Our focus on superb customer service, attention to detail, and providing a relaxed, luxurious environment for our guests is something we take a lot of pride in– and as much as we’d do the same even if no one else was watching, once in a while it’s nice to see that people around the world are taking note of our efforts. So, in the spirit of self congratulations, we’d like to offer ourselves a small pat on the back while offering our loyal guests and fans a huge, loud thank you for giving us one THOUSAND TripAdvisor “Excellent” ratings.
We know you have a choice when you come to Key West– and we’re so glad you’ve chosen us. This season we look forward to welcoming friends, both old and new, to our beautiful property. As always, your enjoyment is our top priority, and we’ll do whatever we can to make sure your vacation to Key West is a memorable one that you’ll cherish for years to come.
So thank you, to every one of our wonderful reviewers…we appreciate your taking the time to let the world know how much you’ve enjoyed yourselves here at our lovely hotel. We’ve enjoyed having you, and look forward to seeing you again.
Today’s Fantasy Fest schedule includes the famous Headdress Ball & Competition, a burlesque show, and a celebration of mankind’s greatest achievement: the Tutu.
Make sure you’re on Duval this evening to catch all the fun (including a 1 mile race in which all participants will be wearing– you guessed it! — tutus.) With live music, crazy costumes and the best people watching in the world, you’d be crazy not to stop by to check it out.
In the mood for something a little less hectic? Need a place to bring the kids that’s free of burlesque? The Tropic Cinema on Eaton St. is showing a 3D screening of the celebrated new flick “Frankenweenie,” which– though it sounds like an event straight off the Fantasy Fest schedule– we’ve been assured is just a family-friendly, good natured film.
