Key West Happenings…

The weekend has come early to Key West, with a slew of fabulous events kicking off today that you won’t want to miss…

Free to attend, followed by a buffet there afterward  that is $20 for adults and $15 for kids under 12.
with appearances by local celebrities Adm. Finbar and the High Command of the Conch Republic Military, along with the Propeller Club of the United States — Port of Key West, the Key West Maritime Historical Society and the Pirates in Paradise Crewe, this is one local party that you’ll be glad you saw.

The Key West Film Festival kicks off today, with screenings and events happening well into the evening. For tickets & showtimes, visit:

The Inaugural Key West Chalk Festival begins today as well: head down to the Truman waterfront to see the artists in all their glory.

Our Key West hotel neighbors, Ibis Bay, are screening their “At the Dive-In” movie for free tonight at 7:30… the classic comedy hit This Is Spinal Tap. Head on over, they’re just a short walk from Parrot Key!

In addition to all that, Pirate infestations and Art Festivals are starting tomorrow; we’ll fill you in on the details in the AM.

Have a great Thursday!

Key West Events…

Today’s a great day to relax by the pools here at Parrot Key Hotel and Resort, or maybe head to the beach for a laid back day of sun and sand. We suggest taking advantage of the quiet now, because as of tomorrow your schedule is going to be overflowing with exciting events.

Not only does the Key West Film Festival begin tomorrow, but the kids (or those who are young at heart) in your family will be pleased to hear that the Inaugural Key West Chalk Festival begins tomorrow over at the Truman waterfront. Featuring artist competitions, prizes, performance art and more, this free event runs from Thursday through  Saturday and brings chalk artists from all over the world to our little island.

In addition, we’ve heard rumors of a pirate infestation scheduled to begin over at Fort Zachary Taylor Park tomorrow. And of a special art festival featuring live graffiti, pottery and music. We’ll update you on those events tomorrow, so be sure to check back!

Whether it’s film, fishing, museums or sidewalk art that tickles your fancy, you’ll be sure to find plenty of things to do this weekend here in Key West. So our advice is to sit back, relax, and take the day off– there’s plenty of fun on the horizon.

Happy Thanksgiving!

From everyone here at Parrot Key Hotel and Resort, we wish you a happy Thanksgiving.

If you’ve left your plans to the last minute and are looking for a place to grab a bit this evening, we know it can be frustrating to find a restaurant with availability. Our front desk agents would be more than happy to call and see which restaurants have seating available for you today, but in the meantime we have one suggestion that is worth considering:

One of our favorite downtown Mexican restaurant, Amigos, is offering a full Thanksgiving spread for only $12.95– and they deliver! Choose to sit at their bar overlooking Duval St. and people-watch as you chow down on your turkey and gravy, or have your meal delivered to your hotel room and enjoy Thanksgiving as we think nature intended it: from the middle of your bed.

Amigos Tortilla Bar is located at 425 Greene Street.

If you prefer your Thanksgiving meal comes with a side of drag show more than a side of green bean casserole, you’ll want to stop by the Bourbon St. Pub today for their annual Employee Turn-a-bout show. Featuring drag performances by your favorite bartenders & staff of the pub (with proceeds to benefit Sister Season, a local charity that helps Key West citizens stay on their feet in times of need) and a free Happy Hour Thanksgiving buffet starting at 5pm, you’ll be sure to spend this holiday having a good time. Casserole optional.

The Bourbon Street Pub is located at 7245 Duval Street.

Wherever your plans take you today, we hope you find joy and delicious food there. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do to make this holiday a special one.

What are your plans for Thanksgiving in the Keys?

Here at Parrot Key Hotel and Resort, our staff is divided. Some swear that the best Thanksgiving dinner around is at one of our local restaurants here in Key West, while others feel that only Mom knows how to make the turkey perfect.

We’re adding up a list of pro’s and con’s to decide who will win this fight, but in the meantime, we’d love to know: what are your plans for Thanksgiving this year? If you’re down in Key West with us, will you be enjoying a feast at one of the island’s restaurants? BBQing a turkey leg or two down at Higgs Beach? Or toasting the Pilgrims in true Conch style by enjoying a mixed drink down on Duval St.?

We’d love to hear from you. Even if your answer involves your in-laws, tofurkey, or a Chinese food buffet for one.

Leave your answers in the comments or friend us on Facebook to tell us on our page– if your answer looks good enough to eat, we’ll share it!

Arts Council Happy Hour Tonight

We’ve mentioned it before, but our Key West hotel has a bit of an art addiction. We just can’t help but support local artists when there’s such a wide array of talent to choose from.

And like most Key West citizens, we also love a good Happy Hour.

Which is why we’ll be sure to swing by The Porch tonight for their special Happy Hour, sponsored by the Key West Arts Council. Featuring wine, beer, prizes and the chance to hobnob with Key West art royalty, this event is on our must-do list.

The Porch is already one of our favorite local bars, with a laid back atmosphere and killer craft beer selection. Add Key West artists into the mix and it’s a no brainer.

The Happy Hour goes from 6:00-8:00pm tonight, November 20th. The Porch is located at 429 Caroline St.

Weather Forecast for Key West

It’s looking like Key West is in for some beautiful weather this week, with clear, sunny skies on the forecast for the next five days. While our friends back North will be slipping on their hats and scarves on Thanksgiving Day, we’ll be relaxing by the pool and giving thanks for the sunshine and 70+ weather that’s scheduled to stick around through the week. (Those pilgrims really missed out when they left piña coladas off the menu.)

Reports are predicting a bit of wind throughout the week–up to 17mph on Wednesday-meaning choppy and cool conditions out on the water. Take caution and always bring a warm sweater or windbreaker on your ocean adventures– it might not feel like it, but this is winter!

As always, enjoy you vacation here at Parrot Key Hotel and Resort. We know you had your choice of many Key West hotels when you were planning your vacation, and we’re thrilled you chose ours. Please let us know if there’s anything you need during your stay! (Except a deep fried turkey. We learned our lesson about that last year.)

Holiday Hayride Pub Crawl for Charity!

Here’s something different to do with your Thursday: Tattoos & Scars Saloon, located at 512 Greene Street, will be hosting a Holiday Hayride Charity Pub Crawl tonight–with all proceeds to benefit needy children here in the Florida Keys.

First, you’ll want to grab an unwrapped toy for children– and yes, we’re pretty sure that your souvenir cup from Fat Tuesday’s isn’t going to cut it. Then you’ll need to purchase your ticket ($25 which will go to purchasing bikes for Keys children over the holidays) at Tattoos & Scars. Seats are limited on the hayride, so stop in as soon as you’ve got your “yee-haw” perfected.

Finally, grab your fellow cowboys and head on over to the hayride at 8:00pm. You’ll be ferried to bars across the island, all the while knowing your hayride pub crawl is funding bikes and toys for local children this holiday season.

As if you needed a reason to take a hayride anyway.
