It’s only a few hours away, which is why we’re already planning what we’re going to do this weekend.
We’ll definitely be checking out the “Fridays on Front” event tonight, where galleries and museums along the historic district of Key West’s Front Street will be lit up like christmas trees, with most offering free admission and special events between 5:30 – 7:00 pm. Special notice goes out to the Truman Little White House at 111 Front Street, which will be extending free admission to their current exhibit: “A Very Merry 1940’s Christmas.” You’ll also want to check out The Key West Art Center at 301 Front St, which will be exhibiting “The Inn Crowd,” a special show of paintings dedicated to the unique architecture of Key West’s inns and guesthouses, while their upstairs area will exhibit a show detailing the Key West Art Center’s storied past going back to the WPA era. And finally, be sure to stop in at the Custom House at 281 Front Street to see Stephen LaPierre’s new show, “My Plein Air Key West Novel,” which showcases his images of familiar Key West locales. There will even be live acoustic string band music playing on the front porch of the museum!
We’ll be going out tomorrow night as well to see the Key West Lighted Boat Parade, happening Saturday evening at 6:00pm on the Key West Bight. (Insider’s tip: Schooner Warf Bar has one of the best vantage points on the island.) This is probably our favorite holiday event here in Key West– free, family-friendly, and truly magical to see.
