About the Keys100 Ultramarathon

The KEYS100 includes three competitions that follow the island chain’s renowned Overseas Highway: a 100-mile individual race from Key Largo to Key West, a 50-mile individual race from Marathon to Key West and a 100-mile, six-runner team relay race from Key Largo to Key West. Top honors are awarded in each race. Before the 2013 event, a pre-race pasta dinner is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Bogie’s Café at the Key Largo Holiday Inn, mile marker (MM) 100. Tickets are $10 for an all-you-can-eat buffet. Saturday morning, the 100-mile team relay and individual races are to begin at 6 a.m. and 6:10 a.m., respectively, on the sidewalk near MM 100 oceanside at Key Largo’s Divers Direct and Office Depot shopping center.

The 50-mile ultra is to begin at 10 a.m. in front of the Marathon Garden Club at MM 50. Nearly 80 percent of the race is to be run on bike paths, pedestrian bridges and service lanes, with the remainder on road shoulders facing traffic. All individual runners are to be provided aid station support with food, drinks and related items at 10-mile intervals, and at mile markers 75 and 25. All races are to end at the same finish line at Key West’s Higgs Beach. No roads or lanes are to be closed and, as in past years, no traffic disruption is expected, according to event organizers. An awards program is set for noon Sunday beneath a large tented area at the finish line.

Marathon Registration

Registration is $250 for the 100-mile individual race, $210 for the 50-mile individual race and $720 per relay team. Active military and first responders receive a 20 percent discount. All participants must be registered by May 12. The competitions benefit the Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys. More than 1,100 athletes plus support crew, volunteers, family and friends are expected to participate in the race through the Keys.
