Fans of unique beers and ales can sample more than 150 varieties including unique microbrews at the fourth annual Key West BrewFest, set for Thursday, Aug. 29, through Monday, Sept. 2. The schedule features brew-focused dinners, craft beer tastings and seminars, pool parties, a lavish tasting festival on the beach and other enticements for thirsty attendees.
The Labor Day weekend celebration benefits the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic. Beers range from intriguingly named offerings such as Monk in the Trunk and Woodchuck Draft Cider to local favorite Key West Sunset Ale and specialties from the Florida Keys Brewing Company.
Pre-festival events begin Wednesday, Aug. 28, with a home brew contest at Old Town Manor, 511 Eaton St., and a beer and rum dinner at the Rum Barrel, 528 Front St.
Friday evening includes “tap takeovers” at Sloppy Joe’s Bar, 201 Duval St., and Krawl Off Duval, 506 Southard St. The festival’s centerpiece is Saturday from 4-8 p.m. when the BrewFest Signature Tasting Festival takes place with more than 150 beers from around the world. The event is located on Key West’s South Beach at the Atlantic Ocean end of Duval Street. Admission is $35 per person in advance, $40 at the door, or $75 for entry to the tasting and a 3 p.m. VIP hour.
Nighttime parties, a beer market, dinners and even beer breakfasts and brunches at Key West restaurants round out BrewFest’s attractions for lager lovers.
