With average temperatures topping 84 degrees, Key West is perfectly positioned to enjoy a range of activities for both adventure-seekers and those looking to indulge in some rest and relaxation, where all you can hear is the sound of serenity.

A reminder to all our readers that everyone’s favorite Caribbean celebration, Goombay Festival, begins today! Head on over to Bahama Village (ask one of our Parrot Key front desk agents to direct you to Petronia St.) and start celebrating.
Every year thousands of people attend Goombay where they delight in the various offerings, including arts and crafts, delicacies from a variety of Caribbean countries, and live entertainment ranging from gospel to reggae. Start your weekend off right with a little Goombay flavor!
You might have noticed that our little Key West Hotel has a big art collection– we take a lot of pride in supporting local artists and always try to find time to visit the art events around town. Tonight we’ll be heading over to the Walk on White, a fun and laid-back event celebrating all the fantastic works of art on White St.
Why not take a leisurely stroll down White Street to see what artists have been up to… and while you’re at it, check out the open artist studios at the Armory & 610 White Street along with a special residency cottage open house at 607/609 Ashe Street! Enjoy free wine, light snacks and as much talk about “the painter’s intentions” as you can possibly stand.
Have fun out there!
Like most Key West hotels, we at Parrot Key Resort like to think that we have a pretty great sense of humor. (Living on a tiny island that once tried to succeed from the United States, you’re pretty much required to be able to laugh at yourself.) Which is why we’re going to head down to Aqua Nightclub tonight for “Laugh Till It Hurts,” a cavalcade of comedy presented by Standup4KeyWest, our favorite local comedy troupe. For a measly $20 donation at the door, audience members are all but guaranteed a seam-splitting, belly-busting night of laughter. The show starts at 6:30pm and runs until 8:00…that leaves you plenty of time to practice your own standup routine to impress those Standup4KeyWest members afterwards.
Aqua Nightclub is located at 711 Duval Street, right in the middle of downtown Key West. Get there early for the good seats up front!
Every year, our little island of Key West plays host to a number of exciting festivals– from pirates to speed boats, there’s a celebration to fit everyone’s taste. The biggest, and most popular, is of course our legendary Fantasy Fest– ten days of crazy costumed parading, partying and other debauched activities. But equally fun is the festival that marks the imminent opening of Fantasy Fest: Goombay Festival, a celebration of the tastes, sights and sounds of Caribbean culture. We impatiently await the opening of Goombay each year–a family-friendly festival that offers incredible food, music, dancing, performances and a true sense of community– and we’re so excited that it’s finally only a few more days away!
For two fabulous days beginning this Friday, October 19th, stroll down the length of Petronia St. and see how long your willpower lasts (ours usually gives in right around the time we see the first foodstall. Conch salad, anyone?) This festival, the end of which marks the official beginning of Fantasy Fest and all its crazy glory, is the perfect way to dip your toe into the Key West festival pool. We’re certain you’ll love it.
The festival runs all day and offers something for everyone. This Friday, be sure to head down to Petronia Street and learn all about Caribbean culture… we’ll save some Conch salad for you, if you’re lucky.
Love pasta as much as we do? Then you’ll be sure to attend the “Pasta, Pasta, Pasta Party” being held tomorrow at the NY Pasta Garden on Duval Street, a local favorite. Just a short cab or bike ride from our Key West Hotel, the NY Pasta Garden serves some of the most rib-sticking, smile-making Italian dishes on this island– and their pasta party promises to feature quite the selection! From 6:00 to 8:30 this Saturday, October 13th, you’ll get your fill of favorites like Chicken Alfredo, Stuffed Shells, Meatballs & Sausage, Meat Lasagna, Dolphin Manicotti, Chicken Marsala, Shrimp & Dolphin Caesar Salad, and more. With an open bar to boot, this event is not to be missed. Tickets are just $30.00 and are sure to sell out, so give the restaurant a call now to reserve yours.

Here in Key West we’re more likely to head to the “Dive In” than the “Drive In” movie theatre– and tonight they’re showing one of our favorites! Head over to our neighbor, Ibis Bay, to catch “Harold and Maud,” the 1971 cult classic that chronicles the relationship between an elderly woman and her friend, a young boy with some serious issues surrounding death. The movie begins at 8:00pm, we’ll see you there!
Ibis Bay is located at 3101 N. Roosevelt Blvd, Key West, FL,33040, United States (Close enough to Parrot Key to walk!)
Celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day the way Johnny himself would have wanted it: with a delicious evening of wine pairings with apples, cheese, apple pie and more, hosted by Duval St’s own Cork & Stogie Bar. Singing hymns and pot-shaped hats are optional, of course, but having fun is mandatory: swing by Cork & Stogie tonight at 1218 Duval Street any time after 6:00pm and save us a slice of that apple pie!
Today marks the beginning of the 14th annual Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival, which runs from September 25th through the 30th and covers a wide range of activities that any birding or wildlife enthusiast will enjoy.
A simple, one-time $5 registration at www.keysbirdingfest.org gets you access to a fascinating schedule of activities, from guide-led bird walks to wildlife & nature photography classes. While some events require an additional donation (such as the sunset sail aboard the Jolly II Rover, a truly beautiful trip) there is certainly an event to fit every budget. For the full list of activities, visit www.keysbirdingfest.org and start planning your days!
Ladies, rejoice! Key West’s annual festival for women is back with a schedule full of fabulous events that are sure to delight. This lesbian-friendly festival sees women from all over the world converge on our little island to kick back, relax and enjoy the party. With a wide variety of activities to satisfy any whim– including dance parties, water excursions, art exhibitions, theatre performances, live music, movie screenings and more– WomenFest offers a jam-packed roster of events that lesbians and their straight allies alike will enjoy.
