There are many words we like to use when describing the perfect vacation, and many of them happen to begin with the letter ‘s’. Whether it’s sunshine, sunsets, sea, sand, simplicity, serenity, or just space to enjoy your freedom away from the routine of everyday life. We’re going to add another ‘s’ for good measure – suites! At Parrot Key, we have created spacious one and two-bedroom suites with style and comfort in mind which make them ideal for couples seeking a little extra indulgence, or for families and friends after much-needed privacy.
Each suite features stunning views and you can choose to live among the tree tops with your own garden view balcony or choose our waterfront suites with views of Florida Bay. If you’re seeking extra savings, a garden suite is the way to go. Don’t just expect to see a pretty display of flowers when we highlight the garden views; in your suite, you will wake up every morning to the spectacular sight of towering palm trees and lush foliage, all helping you to feel the great distance between your newly-found paradise and the hectic urban sprawl you left behind. You and your loved ones will feel revitalized and refreshed living in luxury with the uplifting sight and scent of our peaceful tropical oasis surrounding your spacious suite.
Whether you choose the king one-bedroom garden suite, or the two-bedroom garden suite featuring a master king room and a second queen room or twin room, each room has its own flat-screen TV and DVD player for when you need time out to switch off and recharge. However, bringing the party together will also create some of the best highlights of your vacation, which is why our living rooms are perfectly designed to ensure everyone can sprawl out and watch the latest entertainment on a 42″ flat-screen TV and enjoy all the benefits of a dry bar area, mini-fridge (in most rooms) and coffee maker.
You may wish to stay in your suite all day with such beautiful views and comfortable surrounds, but once you step foot outside and make your way through the landscaped tropical gardens, you’ll soon discover one of our four pools, each sparkling among its own private sculpture garden.
Within a short stroll is Café Blue, serving light lunches, snacks and cool cocktails, a perfect spot for relaxing throughout the day and celebrating an unforgettable Key West sunset. Take our shuttle bus to Smathers Beach and you’ll later find yourself immersed in one of many water sports activities. Venture onto the streets of Key West and the line-up of adventure seems unending, from the Conch Tour Train, the lively atmosphere of Mallory Square, and the many museums and attractions all telling the fascinating story behind this colorful Florida Keys island. Happy vacation!

Delve into Key West’s past
Key West is famed for his colorful history and cultural diversity. It’s home to shipwreck artifacts, literary legends, celebrated artists, and a previously bustling seaport, all beautifully preserved and showcased throughout the city’s fine collection of museums. Among the most popular are the Key West Shipwreck Museum, Ernest Hemingway House, Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum, and the Martello Gallery – Key West Art and Historical Museum, and they all make fascinating places to explore.
Sail away and find your catch
Leave the crowds behind as you sail through the calm waters surrounding Key West with highly-skilled offshore captains. You can explore the Florida Straits, a 90-mile wide trough of deep water beyond the reef that Hemingway once described as “the Great Blue River.” Swimming all around Key West is a rich abundance of fish including snappers and groupers that inhabit the island’s shipwrecks, reefs and back-country channels, making a day’s fishing trip so rewarding.
Music to your ears
Music underpins some of the best memories you’ll take away with you following your vacation, and in Key West there are live music venues round every corner that are sure to get your toes tapping and help you relax. The island’s streets carry a diverse blend of sound in the air, from jazz and blues, to country and western and calypso, making sure you’ll be spoiled for choice in your quest to unwind.
Breathtaking natural beauty
Be prepared to look around in awe as the beauty of Key West’s natural world unfolds before you. With our onsite concierge team, active seniors can take your pick from a range of water-based activities including kayaking and snorkeling, so you can explore the wonders of the ocean at your leisure. Back on dry land, Key West is teeming with places to enjoy natural beauty and the island’s renowned sunsets will no doubt become your favorite part of the day. Head to Mallory Square for the best views and join the Sunset Celebration which takes place every night. Here you’ll find a festival atmosphere as visitors and locals alike all gather to watch the sparkling sun sink into the Gulf of Mexico. Don’t forget to stop by Key West’s Butterfly Conservatory for one last glimpse of the city’s majestic beauty.
Yet another jewel in Key West’s crown is The Waterfront Playhouse, named by Florida Monthly Magazine as ‘the best professional theater in Florida’. For over 70 years, locals and tourists have been treated to a diverse program of productions in this intimate, 150-seat theater which is well-positioned in Mallory Square where the Sunset Celebration adds to the dramatic atmosphere.

Sports fans with a need for speed can satisfy it at the Key West World Championship powerboat races set for Sunday through Sunday, Nov. 8-15, in Key West waters.
The 35th annual championship series is to feature boats raced by leading American and international teams, roaring over a 6.2-mile course that includes Key West Harbor and provides unparalleled viewing for spectators.
Boats typically face both rough and calm water conditions during the season-ending event, dubbed the Indianapolis 500 of the offshore powerboat racing circuit. The challenging course is a primary reason for Key West’s reputation as one of the world’s premier racing venues.
The course layout means boats can sometimes pass within 50 yards of fans, enabling them to experience the pulse-pounding action in a unique close-up manner.
The Key West World Championship is to kick off with a parade of race boats down the island’s legendary Duval Street beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8.
The excitement builds through the week with races Wednesday, Nov. 11; Friday, Nov. 13; and Sunday, Nov. 15. Races are scheduled at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on all three days and each features boats from multiple classes.
Among spectators’ favorites are the Superboat and Superboat Unlimited classes, which draw powerful contenders competing at speeds that can reach 140 and 150 mph, respectively.
On nonrace days, powerboat enthusiasts can view the boats, watch in-water testing runs and mingle with racers and crews at the race village on Key West’s Truman Waterfront, which lies beyond the end of Southard Street past Thomas Street and Truman Annex.
In addition, parties are planned for racers and fans.
General-admission tickets are available, as are all-inclusive VIP spectator passes for the Truman Waterfront grandstands and hospitality tent. Other popular viewing areas include waterfront hotels and Key West’s Mallory Square.

You might have noticed that our little Key West Hotel has a big art collection– we take a lot of pride in supporting local artists and always try to find time to visit the art events around town. Tonight we’ll be heading over to the Walk on White, a fun and laid-back event celebrating all the fantastic works of art on White St.
Why not take a leisurely stroll down White Street to see what artists have been up to… and while you’re at it, check out the open artist studios at the Armory & 610 White Street along with a special residency cottage open house at 607/609 Ashe Street! Enjoy free wine, light snacks and as much talk about “the painter’s intentions” as you can possibly stand.
Have fun out there!
Like most Key West hotels, we at Parrot Key Resort like to think that we have a pretty great sense of humor. (Living on a tiny island that once tried to succeed from the United States, you’re pretty much required to be able to laugh at yourself.) Which is why we’re going to head down to Aqua Nightclub tonight for “Laugh Till It Hurts,” a cavalcade of comedy presented by Standup4KeyWest, our favorite local comedy troupe. For a measly $20 donation at the door, audience members are all but guaranteed a seam-splitting, belly-busting night of laughter. The show starts at 6:30pm and runs until 8:00…that leaves you plenty of time to practice your own standup routine to impress those Standup4KeyWest members afterwards.
Aqua Nightclub is located at 711 Duval Street, right in the middle of downtown Key West. Get there early for the good seats up front!
Love pasta as much as we do? Then you’ll be sure to attend the “Pasta, Pasta, Pasta Party” being held tomorrow at the NY Pasta Garden on Duval Street, a local favorite. Just a short cab or bike ride from our Key West Hotel, the NY Pasta Garden serves some of the most rib-sticking, smile-making Italian dishes on this island– and their pasta party promises to feature quite the selection! From 6:00 to 8:30 this Saturday, October 13th, you’ll get your fill of favorites like Chicken Alfredo, Stuffed Shells, Meatballs & Sausage, Meat Lasagna, Dolphin Manicotti, Chicken Marsala, Shrimp & Dolphin Caesar Salad, and more. With an open bar to boot, this event is not to be missed. Tickets are just $30.00 and are sure to sell out, so give the restaurant a call now to reserve yours.

Here in Key West we sometimes feel that dressing in drag has become a competitive sport– the best of the best can routinely be seen strutting their stuff down Duval St, and local clubs like Aqua are always packed when their drag shows begin each night of the week. But how does a newcomer to the scene arrange their debut? What happens when a gentleman known to declare “Not me! You’ll never see ME in a dress” for years finally decides that maybe he deserves a moment in the spotlight (and in a fabulous wig, perhaps?)
Enter the Aqua Nightclub’s “Miss Never Say Never” Pageant, a night dedicated to the debut of those contestants who you never thought you’d see up on stage, happening tomorrow, October 10th, at Aqua from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Cheer your favorite as contestants are judged on pageant classics such as Beauty, Brains and a Q&A. You’ll want to get there early for a seat up front!
Aqua is located at 711 Duval St. There is a $10 donation suggested at the door.
Start your week off right with a spooky screening presented by Key West’s favorite independent movie theatre, the Tropic Cinema! Head down to the theatre tonight to catch a special, one-night-only screening of the 1954 classic horror film “Creature From the Black Lagoon.”
This definitive monster movie is not to be missed– get there early for good seats and great snacks! Screening begins at 7:00pm.
The Tropic Cinema is located at 416 Eaton St. For more information, call 305-295-4393.
