For a Florida Keys vacation that is piled high with plenty of party spirit, book your getaway in late October for an unforgettable autumn escape. Everything flamboyant, outrageous and colorful will come together in an eye-opening, show-stopping week of celebrations when Fantasy Fest takes center stage in Key West from October 20th through 29th.
Bahama Village Goombay Festival
The first event to kick-start the week-long party is the family-friendly Bahama Village Goombay Festival, an exuberant street party with live music, arts and crafts, and delicious island food. Starting on Friday, October 20th from noon to midnight, this two-day festival is a popular highlight in the line-up of Fantasy Fest entertainment, particularly if you’re traveling to Key West on a family vacation.
Zombie Bike Ride
Island celebrations switch up a gear on Sunday, October 22nd when the spectacular Zombie Bike Ride sets off from 6pm. Another favorite for families, this event is as popular for cyclists as it is for those who prefer to sit back and watch, as thousands of costumed zombies head down US1 to Duval Street for Zombiefest.
Other highlights during the Fantasy Fest week include the Heroes and Villains Run/Walk on Monday, October 23rd, giving you the chance to dress up and walk, run or fly your way through historic Old Town Key West to the finishing line. There will be parties through the week leading up to some of the most anticipated Fantasy Fest celebrations, including the Headdress Ball at the Truman Waterfront Park on Thursday, October 26th, which is the premier gay and lesbian event of Fantasy Fest.
The fun continues at the Fantasy Fest Street Fair on Duval Street starting on Friday, with mile-long entertainment and creative costumes starting at noon, followed by a Masquerade March through Old Town from 5:30pm.
As Saturday arrives, the Fantasy Fest party just gets better with the Duval Street Promenade providing entertainment from noon. The Bud Light Fantasy Fest Parade from 7pm will then bring together 70,000 locals and visitors with glittering floats, dazzling dance displays and wild costumes making their way down Duval Street.
Families can enjoy Children’s Day celebrations on Sunday, October 29th at Bayview Park where there will be rides, food, games, and a children’s costume contest.
